Sounds to this tech pro like the tail is beginning to wag the dog. Just because we have so many mobile resources doesn’t necessarily mean that they will be used – or should be used – in business. Business WILL change if only because there are new options. But change will be incremental and a lot slower than the predictions. Facebook and Words with Friends at your desk isn’t a compelling, strategic reason.
Yes, BYOD (Bring Your Own Device) is a force to be reckoned with, if only because they walk into the local area environment every day and seek company resources to connect. But the requirements for BYOD continue to be personal communication not work related functions.
Now remote workers are a different animal. But we have been connecting them for years to secure company resources using VPNs, Citrix, and Terminal Services. So why do we assume that security-conscious businesses will embrace the cloud?
So far it hasn’t proven to be less expensive.
