No wonder that any gap that existed between the popularity of the iPhone and Samsung’s Android devices has shrunk.
I can only speak from my own personal experience in this regard. Our household (of 3) once had two iPhones and 1 Motorola Android smartphone. Since, the two iPhone users have upgraded to the Samsung Galaxy Note II in order to improve functionality and features.
The other significant reason was the relative independence and freedom they had obtaining apps from variety of sources like Google and Amazon as compared to the lock-step Apple iTunes system.
And to add insult to injury, there were also hundreds of dollars of charges to the family Pay Pal account from the iTunes store for apps and downloads not even being ordered – because the devices had been replaced by non-Apple smartphones.
