“Smartphone users could soon see notifications about the kinds of information that their mobile apps are collecting on them.
App developers and other business groups agreed late on Thursday to begin testing the notices, which would disclose whether the app is collecting several types of information, such as location data, browsing history, health records, contacts, financial information or phone and text logs. The notices would also detail whether the information is being shared with third-parties, such as advertisers.
The groups agreed to test the voluntary code of conduct after more than a year of negotiations under the direction of the National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA), an agency within the Commerce Department.”
Its about time!
