“The social network, blocked in China since 2009, has developed software to keep posts from appearing in users’ news feeds in specific geographic areas, current and former employees said.
The social network has quietly developed software to suppress posts from appearing in people’s news feeds in specific geographic areas, according to three current and former Facebook employees, who asked for anonymity because the tool is confidential. The feature was created to help Facebook get into China, a market where the social network has been blocked, these people said. Mr. Zuckerberg has supported and defended the effort, the people added.”
Facebook has been accused of turning a blind eye to user privacy and now, it seems, the accusations are confirmed as it now gives the Chinese Government the ability to control what is and what isn’t shared on the social media platform in China. Obviously, such control is part of the Facebook “secret sauce”. What happens when the Trump chosen NSA comes calling? 2017 should be an interesting year for privacy.
