Two large points are significant with the announcement by the IETF HTTP Working Group (The Internet Engineering Task Force Hyper Text Transfer Protocol Working Group for the uninitiated):
1. Most Internet users couldn’t give a big whoop about any of it. They just want their browsers to deliver content quickly.
2. HTTP/2 will boost security around the web regardless of opinion or adoption by some of its detractors.
“Sites that want to get the benefit of faster browsing will need to use TLS (Transport Layer Security) if they want to interoperate with the broadest selection of browsers. It’s a neat trick: the HTTP Working Group is making the internet faster as an incentive for making the internet safer.”
