“Superfish, a shopping tool preloaded on some consumer laptops, left the machines open to attack.”
Just unearthed this tidbit which seems to have grown into a much larger issue – maybe. A recent ban by the “5-Eyes” spy agencies of Lenovo laptops follows on the heels of another recent souring of Hauwei products (HP has been a major buyer of Hauwei technology in the past). Add this to the recent allegations of Chinese hacking and we now may have the makings of new political drama.
But if you suspect that this might be industrially motivated by major US technology companies, forget it. Their sole-source for manufacturing of nearly all the infrastructure and consumer technologies IS China. And anyone who thinks that these kinds of operations can be duplicated quickly if at all is deluded.
And besides, I love my ThinkPad.
