The key to Microsoft’s purchase of yammer is it’s one-size-fits-all approach to social networking. The SN landscape is becoming more and more cluttered and dis-focused in terms of its value to the Enterprise.
We are clearly in transition these days – from the days of direct mail marketing, time-consuming demographic analysis, and traditional advertising channels.
And MS has always put its eggs in one basket. The trick now is for them to continue to hold enough market share to continue to be profitable. After all, the horse is already out of the barn with smartphone and android.
The recent, impending flop with Windows 8 and Surface is certainly a wake-up call.
