The days of free Internet and rapid, rampant linking and marketing may be behind us as the potential tax revenues become more attractive to regulators. But the fascinating part of the move is the variety of strategies for locating the “toll booths”. I can remember the days when I paid to enter a “freeway” to the time now when I have free access to enter, but must pay to leave. Similar strategies will abound in the not too distant future, at least in the EU.
