The conversation about “The Internet of Things” heats-up as the FTC chairwoman points to “undeniable” security risks for home/office devices (not computers, per-se) that connect to the Internet. There was a time when we would provide a dial-up phone line for customer or vendor control of information for security or reporting purposes. Now, with the mobile wireless and home/business networks WiFi, Bluetooth, and NFC capable, such connectivity is most often always on and PUBLIC, once the firewall is breached. And many don’t deploy any physical or virtual firewall at all.
