What a difference two years makes!  In 2012-2013 Apple refused to follow Samsung’s lead with the introduction of the Note series smartphones.  And the result was a surge in market share for Samsung.

So what?  Apple recognized that size does matter and increased phone size in 2014.  The result was massive success.  And people worldwide were willing to pay a premium for the Apple brand.

Result?  Much higher profits than Samsung could achieve with nearly similar sales figures.

But when the smartphone becomes commoditized, will price point become a more important factor?  Only time will tell.
