I’m a baby boomer who was struck yesterday by the realization that the technology experience of millenials is probably very different from that of my generation. The reasons are obvious:
Baby-boomer: Watched television and there were 3 channels back in the day.
Millenial: Watches YouTube and streams media content.
Baby Boomer: Values privacy. Locks doors. Builds fences. Isolates. Uses the telephone.
Millenial: Acts openly and transparently. Uses Uber and Lyft ridehares. Shares housing with Airbnb, Congregates. Hooks up. Links. Uses Instagram.
Baby Boomer: Watches serials and series on TV. Takes the Sunday paper.
Millenials: Binge watches for hours at a time. Doesn’t read or buy print.
Baby Boomer: Wants an 80″ TV.
Millenial: Is happy with 10 sq. inch smartphone screen and scrolling through columns of material.
Baby Boomer: Watches Ironside and Archie Bunker re-runs.]
Millenial: Watches Netflix and Cable series like Silicon Valley and House of Cards
So whats the point? We all know that generation gaps have existed forever.
My point is the revelation that the opinions and experiences of Baby-boomers may be lost on Millenials. Like us, when we were young, they perceived their elders as dinosaurs, not to be taken seriously.
And- as I and many others have been blogging for many years now, it may be that Privacy is Dead!
What do you think?
