I’m not part of the Microsoft Family and haven’t renewed my Partner Program subscription in a while.
Please don’t tell!
I’m in the middle of trying to get a Best Buy purchased Lenovo Yoga Ultrabook introduced into our company LAN and just wanted to share my pain with anyone who will listen.
The convertible laptop/tablet looks cool (see: ) but while checking the system settings I discovered that it has “Home” not “Pro” Windows. I’m now into hour 7 or 8 of multiple attempts to get it joined to the company domain.
Now, there’s good news and bad news. The good news is that in their “wisdom” the folks from Redmond thought to install one package on all machines (I am presuming here) and then providing a second validation key to “unlock” the Pro features, including Media Center. This is accomplished by purchasing a “Windows 8 Pro Pack” from your favorite vendor, following the directions to obtain an install key and getting on with your life.
But it doesn’t work – at least on the Lenovo Yoga Ultrabook 13.
After succombing to my own impatience, I also tried to accomplish the Windows Updates and discovered that thay fail as well. A few minutes online revealed that I am not alone. Looks like a problem with no end in sight.
I’ll keep you all posted!
Thanks for letting me rant.
